Global CoWorking Provider
Described as a ‘physical social network,’ our US client has emerged over the last 5 years as the fastest growing provider of commercial coworking space. Launched in 2008, they were named among ‘the most innovative companies of 2015’ by Fast Company Magazine.
The client was looking to update their Paddington property in line with their other, cutting-edge buildings; breathing inspiration into the space through contemporary decor and furnishings.
Time was of the essence on the project as the client had only 6 weeks between initial concept phases and the final handover. Working diligently with the fit-out contractor and the internal US/UK design teams, we managed to finalise plans and materials on a quick turnaround and expedite work onsite.
“We’ve found that the best way to imbue a space with inspiration and creativity is by making something original” said Project Director, Doug Law. To this effect, the main reception boasts encaustic tiles in a herringbone pattern with ‘Mind the Grind’ written into the tiling; creating maximum visual impact on entry into the building. The floating reception seating is embellished with a sunken glass floor mosaic, which catches the sunlight streaming through the massive front windows.
In the canteen and bar area, black; grey and white porcelain was used to create bespoke geometric tessellations, these complex patterns draw the eye across them and complement the exposed ceiling and industrial-style metal furnishings. Sustainability was a high priority to the client, so we chose handcrafted ceramic and porcelain from a select group of suppliers who set green credentials at the heart of their business.
Having only seen the materials and visualisations of the project, the client team was impressed by the quality and detail in the final results. The intricacies in the design and installation of the ceramic and porcelain created a series of complex challenges for our team, but their familiarity with the products helped them to overcome such obstacles and ensure the project was a complete success.
